Substitute School Nurse - LPN or RN

FUNCTION

Under direction of the Director of Community Health, Nursing Supervisor, other managing nurse or managerial authority, the LPN or RN will be responsible for providing one on one nursing care to a medically fragile student in the school setting.   The work assignment will follow the school schedule of the student.

JOB DUTIES

1.  Proven skills in direct clinical care for all school age children, including those with health disparities and disabilities. Ability to follow Physician’s orders and Registered Nursing instruction and guidance.

2. Must have knowledge and skills pertaining to tracheostomy, suctioning, G tubes and feeding, medication administration, and diapering.

3. Will be required to accompany student on school transportation to and from school.

4. Accuracy and efficiency expected in oral, written and electronic communication and documentation of student’s response to plan of care, maintaining student confidentiality as guided by HIPPA and FERPA.

5. Follows the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse Scope and Standards of Practice as outlined by the Ohio Board of Nursing and Ohio Revised Code, Section 4723.01

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires travel, flexibility and short notice for assignments in a school setting within academic calendar/school day.

MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENT (including license, if any)

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio, 3 years of experience preferred.
