JOB DESCRIPTION-WIC DIRECTOR

FUNCTION

Under supervision of the Health Commissioner, plans, develops, directs, supervises and administers the W.I.C. program in the Health District; within the frame work of federal regulations, the State of Ohio WIC policies and procedures and the Lorain County local WIC policies and procedures. Also, to perform other related duties as required.

JOB DUTIES

1.  Directs, supervises & schedules the entire WIC staff; WIC Nutrition Coordinator, WIC Nutrition Educators, WIC Health Aides, and conducts performance appraisals.

 2.  Counsels WIC participants individually or in groups regarding their nutritional needs, establishes individual nutrition education goals & completes the necessary documentation for the medical/WIC records.

 3.  Acts as the coordinator of WIC functions to the subcontracting agencies, vendors & community groups, and takes charge in all crisis situations.

 4.  Prepares the annual WIC Grant Application and budget, authorizes expenditures & completes the monthly Nutrition Education report and budget report.

 5.  Certifies and recertifies WIC participants, including obtaining medical data (heights, weights & blood) and recommends appropriate food packages when necessary.

 6.  Provides documentation of compliance with WIC regulations, compiles statistics & completes all reports required by the Ohio WIC Program.

 7.  Initiates the development of form letters, outreach materials, etc., supervises the development of nutrition education materials; presents nutritional topics to the community.

 8.  Attends state & local WIC meetings as required; conducts staff informational & Advisory Board meetings; attends community service meetings; maintains continuing education hours.

 MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS

 Knowledge of:  Supervision; administration; public relations; grant writing; objectives & goals of nutrition for the WIC Program; policies and procedures set by Ohio WIC; accounting procedures & nutrition education activities; Ohio computer read-outs.

 Ability to:  Speak in public; have strong written and verbal skills. Must be able coordinate nutrition programs in health department and the community; communicate effectively through writing.

 MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENT (including license, if any.)

Possession of Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or other similar science, Registered Dietitian; license from the Ohio Board of Dietetics and Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).
