Description: Lorain County Public Health is seeking to hire a full-time Breastfeeding Peer Helper in the WIC Division with a typical workday of Monday – Friday, 8:00 to 4:30 pm with evenings and weekends as needed.
Under general supervision of the WIC Director or Nutrition Supervisor, is responsible for providing breastfeeding support and education to pregnant and breastfeeding women, making referrals, and assisting with the breastfeeding activities of the WIC project.
MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of: clinical and office equipment, computer literacy in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, report compilation, and medical terminology.
Ability to: communicate and relate to the public with positivity and patience; speak, read, and write in Spanish and English; switch tasks quickly and efficiently; be a team player; open to cross-training; be reliable and timely; function according to agency and departmental policies.
Has breastfed an infant exclusively or substantially for at least six months. Has been a former or current WIC participant. Possesses strong customer service skills with the ability to build lasting relationships with participants.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal vehicle required. Local travel between clinics, or community sites as needed. Some evening or weekend opportunities for breastfeeding support groups or farm market voucher distributions.
