Licensed Practical Nurse - School Nursing

FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Director of Community Health, Nursing Supervisor, other managing nurse or managerial authority, the LPN will be responsible for a school assignment, function within the scope of licensed practical nursing, apply principles and competencies of school health and be available for other assignments as designated within the school or health department.

JOB DUTIES

1. Effectively collaborates with peers, school personnel, individuals, and families. Has a tolerance for ambiguity, autonomy in nursing skills.

2. Follows the Licensed Practical Nurse Scope and Standards of Practice as outlined by the Ohio Board of Nursing and Ohio Revised Code, Section 4723.01F

3.  Proven skills in direct care for all school-age children, including those with health disparities and disabilities. Ability to follow Physician’s orders and Registered Nursing instruction and guidance.

4.  Efficiency expected in oral, written, and electronic communication and documentation of student’s response to the plan of care, maintaining student confidentiality as guided by HIPPA and FERPA.

5.  Assist school districts with state mandates for health and wellness and other health initiatives as assigned.

MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of:  Principles of community health including but not limited to school health.

Ability to:  Perform duties in a school setting as assigned by RN including but not limited to: immunization surveillance; maintenance of school health records; emergency response; communicable disease surveillance, data collecting, and reporting; medication administration, chronic disease management.  Participate in other community health initiatives as assigned.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires travel, the general assignment will be in a school setting within the academic calendar.

MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENT (including license, if any)

Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio, 5 years’ experience preferred. Proof of up-to-date status on all ACIP recommended immunizations for healthcare workers required. Desired candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, aspiration to work with children, and the ability to work independently within the school setting. Must have a Valid Driver’s License for the State of Ohio with reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
